LESSON PLAN: Children & Young Learners
A.
STUDENTS and SETTING
Students
Primary school / second grade (ages
7-8). Number of students is 24 students; 14 students are
female, and the rest are male. They speak
Bahasa (Indonesia language) in their
dayly activities, and they are surrounded by bahasa speaking-environment.
Setting
This is a state public school where
the teacher faces the same students everyday. English is thought in 45 minute
lessons of three times in a week. Teacher can increase students’ vocabulary
from day to day with English lessons.
B. LESSON
BACKGROUND
This lesson asks students to know
and master some new vocabularies of animals. They are really interested to talk
about animals. This is an appropriate topic on that age, because their parents always
invite them to go to zoo in vacations. This lesson will help them to know more
about English in the zoo.
C. LEARNING
OBJECTIVES / EXPECTED RESULTS
Students will listen and look to the
teacher’s instructions. The teacher pronounce
word and point the picture. Students will listen and hear the vocabulary many
times. They are asked to repeat what the teacher said. By the end of the
lesson, they are expected to be able to use some of the new vocabulary words
appropriately in their life. If they master this material, it will help them to
acquire the language and memorize the words of English.

Materials
Four posters; 2 posters of wild
animals and 2 posters of tame animals. Each poster is about 1 x 1 m. These are
made from thick paper.

F. REFLECTION:
This
lesson uses pictures which are known by realia material. This is an interesting topic that can help students to improve
their English vocabulary. Where the students on that age are really interested
in talking about animals. When they want to talk about their favorite animal,
they will memorize it automatically.
